I photographed so many newborns last year that I had a hard time keeping up with showing their sweet little faces off! I love when my past wedding clients come back a few years later to photograph their first child. Kevin & Laura were one of the kindest wedding couples I have ever had the pleasure of photographing, and I knew they would be amazing parents to this baby boy. I traveled to their home in Fairfax, VA to capture some images of the life of a first time parent to a newborn. Baby Noah was having a tough day, but we were still able to get some heartfelt images of this family. They had a few props that they wanted to use for posed newborn photographs as well, so I brought along my studio equipment to capture Noah’s first posed portraits. Here are a few of my favorites from the day…
During newborn sessions, babies tend to want to eat a lot more than normal. They just want to be soothed since they know something is different going on, so they naturally want to root for mommy to feel safe. Pacifiers help tremendously during the duration of the session as long as the baby will take them, but being fed is always a sure way to get baby to relax again. I love this set of Kevin trying to comfort Noah (what a sweet Daddy!), and then Laura feeding baby Noah her milk. I always try to get feeding images in an on location session, whether it’s breastfeeding (#normalizebreastfeeding), bottle-feeding mommy’s milk or formula feeding. That look of complete satisfaction while being held is so sentimental… even their little toes are happy!
My favorite posed image. Kevin has an extensive collection of hummels, so I brought an outfit of newborn lederhosen with a cute little hat to complete the look!
Noah’s Ark! We set up the posed portraits in their living room area and used a basket of Laura’s as the ark. It was perfect!
The cliche newborn feet picture, but I’m still not tired of it…
Have I mentioned I love little newborn toes?
